JCARA Club Meeting

Cliff Smither, N4ZEU, called the meeting to order at 7 p.m., April 15, 2008. The meeting was held at Northside Hospital in Johnson City. The meeting was begun with the Pledge of Allegiance.
JCARA President Steps Down
Cliff announced that he has decided to retire from the Club Presidency and offered Tom Cook, KB4HZK, as a possible replacement. Mike suggested that if someone else would serve, that Tom could remain in his Treasurer position. In the ensuing discussion, it emerged that Wendell. the Vice-President, was agreeable to serving as President with Mike as Vice-President. Ken Hart, K4KN, moved that this be made official, Tom seconded, and the motion carried by a unanimous show of hands.
Morganton Hamfest
Cliff announced that the Morganton, NC, hamfest will be this weekend and offered information to anyone who is interested.
Camping/Naturalist Event
Mike Wechsler, N4OFA, invited everyone to accompany him to the upcoming Roan Mountain naturalist rally on the first weekend of May.
Terry McMackin, WD4ALN - SK
Wendell Messimer, K4ZHK, recently announced that a former long-time member of the club, Terry McMackin, WD4ALN, had recently passed away. Services were held on April 12.
WalkAmerica - March of Dimes
Wendell Messimer also announced that the March Of Dimes Walk America event will be held this Saturday, April 19, at the Appalachian Fairgrounds. Doug Cooper has requested that 10 hams be present to support this event. All interested hams should meet at 9 a.m. at the Fairgrounds.
VE Test Session
An exam session will also be held this Saturday, Apr. 19th at ETSU at 10 a.m.
Jonesborough Days - Special Event Station
Wendell suggested that the club might enjoy a Special Event Station operation in conjunction with Jonesborough Days in early July. There were 10 people who indicated that they would participate. Rebecca Sutphin, KI4JKS, agreed to design a certificate and Wendell will proceed with planning.
Washington County ARES
Mike announced that an ARES call-up drill will be performed on Sunday, April 27. Be ready to receive a telephone call, to call the next person in line, and to check into a simplex net on 146.790. Tom passed out new call-up lists.
Program
Mike Otis, K0TIS, presented our program on transmission line matching, ununs, baluns and told about his pleasure in building accessories for his station.
