JCARA Club Meeting
Tuesday Feb 19, 2008
Cliff Smither, N4ZEU, called the meeting to order at 7 p.m., February 19, 2008. The meeting was held at the Courtyard Classroom of Northside Hospital in Johnson City. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, we went around the room and everyone introduced themselves to the group. Cliff asked that if anyone has a spare U. S. flag they could bring it to the club meeting.
JCARA Trailer
We discussed moving the Club trailer into town and parking it at the EMS building. Wendell Messimer, K4ZHK, volunteered to contact the Appalachian Fairgrounds officials to make arrangements to obtain and possibly clean the trailer.
Mike Wechsler, N4OFA, reported that the Johnson City/Washington Emergency Management Agency has a generator and the air conditioner from our old Blue Goose ready for someone to pick up. We discussed how these could be used with the trailer.
Treasurer
Tom Cook, KB4HZA, our Treasurer reminded everyone to pay their 2008 Club dues: $16 individual or $24 family. Tom reported that we have $780.06 in the Club checking account.
ARES - Washington County
Tom Cook, KB4HZA, acting Emergency Coordinator Washington County, passed out ARES call-up lists and asked that any errors be reported to him. He and Mike are planning to exercise the call-up list soon. We discuss possible ARES roles in a local emergency and Tom distributed survey forms to the ARES members present.
Field Day
Mike, N4OFA, discussed possible plans for Field Day. Contact Mike if your are interested in being the Field Day Captain.
SK Equipment - Jeep Jones
C. V. Jayne, W4NHT, reported that the family of Jeep Jones, W4AOY, have said that they would like to donate his Amateur Radio equipment to the Club. C. V. and Cliff will make an appointment to survey this equipment and proceed.

Program
Mike, N4OFA, discussed formal traffic and NTS messages, emphasizing the importance of accurate and orderly transmission of messages in an emergency situation. He would like someone to send and receive at least one message weekly on the JCARA net, which meets on Tuesday evenings at 9 p.m. on 146.790.
Mike also discussed 80-meter Near Vertical Incidence Skywave antennas and how to make a 2-meter J-pole antenna. He distributed some materials and the information sheet for the J-pole to interested people.
